Man sentenced for trying to rob boy

? A Leavenworth man has begun a prison sentence of more than two years for trying to rob a 12-year-old boy riding a skateboard.

Police say 20-year-old Jacob Young stopped his car in Lansing on Sept. 26 and robbed the skateboarder after raising his shirt to reveal what the boy thought was a handgun. Police arrested Young the next day after the boy saw his vehicle.

Young was charged with robbery but pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of attempted robbery and was sentenced Dec. 19 to 27 months in prison. He also pleaded no contest to battery against a law officer stemming from a struggle at a hospital after his arrest.

He was sentenced to one year for that charge to run concurrently with the other sentence.
