From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 1, 1908: “Five hundred students, faculty members and townspeople will sit down to a banquet in the university gymnasium tomorrow night to honor the unbeaten University of Kansas football team, champion of the Missouri Valley. The YMCA is the sponsor and this will be the biggest social event of the year. As many as 600 may attend and arrangements are being made for such. … There is a talk here about forming a women’s dining club to allow women to get together and discuss business as well as home stewardship. … Early evidence is that provisions are in stock and that the poor in the community will be taken care of well this year. Associated Charities seems well-prepared to help our needy through the winter.”
