Woman accused of biting KU police officer

A Lawrence woman was arrested after biting a police officer, in a criminal case that spanned two Kansas University sports venues, police said.

It all started on the lawn of Allen Fieldhouse, where campus police approached the 25-year-old woman about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, said KU Public Safety Office spokesman Capt. Schuyler Bailey.

The woman ran away into a construction area and was later found by officers inside Hoglund Ball Park, Bailey said.

The woman refused to leave, became combative and bit a female officer while she was being placed under arrest, he said. A police report indicated the suspect was possibly intoxicated.

The officer who was bit remains on duty and did not seek medical attention, said Bailey.

“She should be fine,” he said.

The suspect was booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of criminal trespassing, battery on a law enforcement officer and obstruction, a jail report said.
