From the Lawrence Daily World of Aug. 29, 1908: “Lawrence is in the middle of the biggest shortage of houses it has experienced in years. All summer, families have been moving in from over the state to bring their children here to be educated and it is practically impossible to find a house for rent or sale in the university district. In spite of a great deal of building here, the scarcity of housing carries throughout the city and not just in university areas.”
