Lawrence under Flash Flood Watch tonight

Lawrence is under a Flash Flood Watch until Thursday morning, as heavy rain is expected to fall tonight.

A Flash Flood Watch, issued by the National Weather Service, means flooding in possible but not imminent in the watch area.

At 3:34 p.m. the National Weather Service issued the watch for Jefferson, Wabaunsee, Shawnee and Douglas counties.

According to the National Weather Service, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will continue to advance tonight north across the area. The moisture will interact with an approaching upper-level storm system to produce showers and thunderstorms across Douglas County.

In addition, ground along and south of Interstate 70 is moist or saturated from recent rains. The expected storms may produce another one to two inches of rain.

The rain is expected to taper off early Thursday morning.
