Holmes, Moriarty take center stage

Cast members Shawn M. Trimble, left, as Sherlock Holmes, Amber Dickinson, as Irene Adler, and Randy Parker, as Professor Moriarty, rehearse for the Lawrence Community Theatre production of Sherlock

Mystery takes the stage beginning tonight at the Lawrence Community Theatre, as “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” begins a three-week run.

The show, under the direction of Charles Whitman, focuses on the famous detective’s last, great adventure.

Here’s the plot: When the King of Bohemia is blackmailed on the eve of his wedding, it’s clear the sinister Professor Moriarty is behind it. It’s up to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to recover a scandalous photograph of the king and singer Irene Adler before Moriarty can use it against the king.

But there’s a catch: For the first and only time in his career, Holmes falls in love. He tries to find a way to win Irene’s affection and solve the case at the same time.

The script, written by Steven Dietz, is based on an original story by William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle written in 1899. Stars in this performance include Shawn M. Trimble as Holmes and Forrest Lowry as Dr. Watson.

“Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” opens with a show at 8 tonight at the Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H.

Additional shows are Saturday, Sunday, Thursday, and April 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26 and 27. Thursday shows are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2:30 p.m.
