Haskell invites public to events

The community is invited to an Indigenous Empowerment Summit that includes presentations, tours, a concert and pow wow.

The summit is today through Saturday at Haskell Indian Nations University, which organized the event along with Kansas University. The cost is $5 for students and $10 for nonstudents.

The event kicks off at 6:45 a.m. today with a sunrise blessing at the fire pit. Other highlights:

¢ Model search and workshop featuring a Native talent agency, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. today, Stidham Union.

¢ Native talent fashion show, 6 p.m. Friday, Coffin Sports Complex.

¢ Tribal leaders panel, 1 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Haskell auditorium.

¢ Kiowa Cultural Organization gourd dancing, 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Coffin Sports Complex.

¢ Powwow grand entry and contest, 7 p.m. Saturday, Coffin Sports Complex.
