Kansas University cornerback Aqib Talib was credited with a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown Saturday against Florida International, but that seemed to sell the play a little bit short.

Talib obviously was two or three yards in the end zone when he picked off the Wayne Younger pass, meaning he really returned it about 103 yards in the Jayhawks’ 55-3 victory at Memorial Stadium.

He was only credited with 100 yards, though, thanks to rule three in the basic interpretations of the NCAA football statistician’s manual, which states that “only the yardage from goal line to goal line is recorded statistically, with the single exception of a field-goal attempt.”

¢ More votes: Kansas received six points in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday, after getting one point in each of the previous two polls.

The Jayhawks also received 20 points in the coach’s poll and 72 points in the Harris poll, though they didn’t crack the top 25 in any of them.

¢ Itinerary for the week: The Jayhawks practiced Sunday and will have today off before going through a normal week on the practice field.

“Same practice schedule that we have every week,” Mangino said.

However, this week’s slate will include a day off Saturday since the Jayhawks are idle.

¢ Webb update: Sophomore cornerback Anthony Webb did not suit up against Florida International on Saturday. He’s listed on the most recent depth chart as a backup cornerback and played regularly on special teams in the first three weeks.

Mangino said that Webb wasn’t battling an injury.

“He just didn’t make the dress list,” Mangino said.

¢ Players of the week: With no game this week and no news conference Tuesday, Mangino announced his players of the game during a conference call Sunday.

Defensive honors were split between cornerback Aqib Talib and linebacker Mike Rivera. Quarterback Todd Reesing was cited on offense, while freshman Dakota Lewis earned the special-teams honor.
