Registration is open for a four-part book discussion group that will explore the literature of the Harlem Renaissance.

The discussions are sponsored by the Lawrence Public Library and the Spencer Museum of Art, in conjunction with the museum’s exhibition on the work of Topeka native and artist Aaron Douglas.

The book discussions will take place at 6 p.m. Thursdays next month at the museum, 1301 Miss. Each book discussion will be followed at 7 p.m. by a film on a related topic. Here is the schedule:

Oct. 4: “The New Negro,” by Alain Locke, with discussion leader J. Edgar Tidwell. Film: “Brother to Brother.”

Oct. 11: “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” by Zora Neale Hurston, with discussion leader Beverly Mack. Film: “Zora Neale Hurston: A Heart with Room for Every Joy.”

Oct: 18: “Cane,” by Jean Toomer, with discussion leader Trish Reeves. Film: “Without Fear or Shame,” from the PBS series “I’ll Make Me a World.”

Oct. 25: “Passing,” by Nella Larsen, with discussion leader Elizabeth Schultz. Film: “Imitation of Life.”
