Torn between two seasons? A few Quick fixes for fall

When fall arrives full force, here are three ways to easily update last year’s looks.

¢ Jewel and primary colors: A bright bolt of color serves as your own electric shock therapy, Elle magazine suggests, especially to enliven all that gray. Cobalt blue is one of the hottest hues. Two trends in one: a jewel-tone sweater with balloon sleeves.

¢ Opaque black tights: Seen on nearly every runway, this is the safest way to carry off the risky new look that pairs ankle boots or oxford-style high heels with skirts and dresses. Not trying that trend? Opaque tights also will update any dress with safe pumps.

¢ Three pieces are the charm: Wide-legged pants aren’t the only way to incorporate the menswear-inspired trend. Try layering one more piece than you typically do on top. Say, a vest between your cardigan and your blouse. Or a swouse – a sweater vest with visible portions of a blouse attached – over a long-sleeve T. Or a belt between a long sweater jacket and another thin sweater. Suddenly, every piece looks new.
