Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 15, 1907: “In July, a smooth young man selling magazines came here and told people that for a $2 subscription to one of the noted publications, a person also would get a pretty little clock. Many got stung. The man is gone with more than $50 and the clocks he left are worth about 50 cents. : The city council has decreed that store signs that are too low and knock off hats, particularly of women, must be raised to prevent further nuisances of this nature.”
