Baldwin 35, Prairie View 17

LaCynge – A balanced offensive attack helped the Baldwin Bulldogs bounce back to defeat Prairie View, 35-17, after they nearly blew a 21-point first half lead.

Baldwin jumped on the Buffalos 21-0 by the middle of the second quarter. Zach Durr and Drew Berg each rushed for touchdowns, while Berg connected with Brandon Tommer on a 20-yard touchdown pass for the other score.

Prairie View answered back with a 64-yard touchdown strike on the very next play. Levi Gochenour found Josh Ravnikar in the end zone on the halfback pass.

After two Baldwin interceptions and one Prairie View field goal, BHS led 21-9 at halftime.

The Bulldogs responded after the break with an 11-play, 54-yard drive. Sam Beecher capped off the drive with a 26-yard touchdown run.

Gabe Mason later rushed for Baldwin’s final score, a 13-yard run late in the game.

Baldwin hosts Ottawa Friday.

De Soto 48, Anderson County 20

Garnett – Three different De Soto players ran for more than 70 yards in a victory over Anderson County.

Shane Miller carried 10 times for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns for De Soto. Dylan Burford had five carries for 73 yards and two TDs and Erik Hill rushed 17 times for 100 yards and a TD.

The Wildcats racked up 459 yards on the ground.

Miller was equally effective on defense, picking off two Bulldogs passes.

De Soto improved to 3-0 and will play host to Louisburg next Friday.

Spring Hill 27, Ottawa 13

Ottawa – The Ottawa Cyclones, tied with Spring Hill at halftime, suffered a disappointing 27-13 loss Friday.

Ottawa’s Derrick Huddleston caught a 35-yard pass from Ben Harris for the Cyclones’ first quarter score.

Brandon Turner had a one-yard TD run in the second and the game was tied, 13-13, at half.

Spring Hill found the end zone twice more in the second to add 14, while Ottawa (0-3) did not score again.

Ottawa travels to Baldwin on Friday.

Oskaloosa 28, Jackson Heights 14

Oskaloosa – Oskaloosa jumped out to a 20-0 halftime lead and held off Jackson Heights on the strength of Chase Tenpenny’s kick-return touchdown in the third quarter.

Adam Bowser threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to J.T. Thurston, and Lakota Coffman and Brandon Barnes added rushing scores.

The Bears improved to 3-0 and will host Pleasant Ridge next Friday.

Bonner Springs 30, Tonganoxie 8

Tonganoxie – Tonganoxie trailed by 15 at halftime and only reached the end zone once in a 30-8 loss to Bonner Springs Friday.

Chieftains quarterback Jeremy Carlisle scored the lone Tonganoxie (0-3) TD on a three-yard run. He went 6-for-12 in the passing game for 140 yards.

Tonganoxie recovered two Braves fumbles, but had trouble containing Bonner Springs quarterback Tyler Jock, who ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Jock also hit Jeremy Walker for an 86-yard TD pass.

Tonganoxie plays at Mill Valley on Friday.

Basehor-Linwood 27, Perry-Lecompton 21

Basehor – Basehor-Linwood’s Brandon Leppke scored from five yards out with 48 seconds remaining to lead the Bobcats (1-2) to victory over the Kaws (2-1).

The score indicated a close game, but P-L coach Mike Paramore said otherwise, noting that B-L ran 68 plays to his team’s 34.

“We just got outplayed tonight,” Paramore said. “We couldn’t get off the field to get our offense out there.”

P-L scored first in the contest on a Josh Durflinger fumble recovery in the first quarter.

The Kaws’ Shane Ginzo returned a kickoff 90 yards in the second and scored his team’s only offensive TD on a five-yard carry in the third.

P-L hosts Santa Fe Trail on Friday.

Lansing 50, Santa Fe Trail 25

Carbondale – Caleb Cook rushed for 114 yards in Santa Fe Trail’s 50-25 loss to Lansing on Friday night.

Cody Godshall completed a 40-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Hill and rushed for a 1-yard score for SF Trail, 1-2.

Santa Fe Trail will travel to Perry-Lecompton on Friday night.

Mill Valley 15, KC Piper 9

Kansas City, Kan. – Mill Valley (3-0) scored on its opening drive, but struggled throughout the rest of its road victory over KC Piper (1-2).

“It was a little bitter sweet tonight,” MV coach George Radell said, “but it was nice to win.”

Radell said the Jaguars didn’t execute well after their opening TD, but they managed to score in the fourth quarter on a Nicholas Woods run to re-gain the lead and seal the victory.

Mill Valley hosts Tonganoxie on Friday.

Wathena – The McLouth Bulldogs fell to 0-3 on the season and failed to reach the endzone.
