Donalda Mae Hobson Lindholm, rural Baldwin City, plans to celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at Worden United Methodist Church, 294 E. 900 Road.

The event is being hosted by Lindholm’s daughters, Terrie Lindholm and Connie Taylor. No gifts, please.

¢The 52nd annual Schwarz family reunion is planned for noon Sunday at the Wingert barn, 693 E. 1250 Road, one-quarter mile north of the Zarco 66 gas station south of Lawrence on U.S. Highway 59.

¢Eric and Ashli Votaw, Eudora, announce the birth of their son, Lincoln Miles Votaw, born Sept. 9, 2007, at Olathe Medical Center. Lincoln’s siblings are Maci, 5, and Maddox, 2.

His maternal grandparents are Craig and Madlyn Adams, Olathe. Paternal grandparents are Alan and Delores Votaw, Eudora. Great-grandparents are Florence Adams, Humboldt; and Everett and Margaret Votaw, and Paul and Doris Oelschlaeger, all of Eudora.

¢The Lawrence Barn Dance Association will offer a community barn dance at 7:30 p.m. today at Woodlawn School, 508 Elm St. A beginner’s lesson will start at 6:45 p.m.

The caller will be Jim Williams, with live music by the Scraphounds, whose members are Pete Howard, Barbara Weathers and Jim Ruth. Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for students and $2 for youths under 16.

No partner is necessary. The dances are taught and prompted, and the evening begins with easier dances. Please wear clean shoes that won’t mark the floor.

¢Cottonwood Inc.’s Retirement Services plans to present its annual art show and auction, “Slice of Life, A Collection of Outsider Art,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Admission is free, and all art will be available for purchase during a silent auction.

¢ Jason and Amy Edmondson, Overland Park, announce the birth of their son, Matthew Edmondson, born Aug. 25, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Matthew’s maternal grandmother is Francine Winn, Fairway. His paternal grandparents are Christopher and Teresa Edmondson, Lawrence.

¢Dustin Holladay has accepted a position with the U.S. Border Patrol.

A native of Lawrence, Holladay attended Perry-Lecompton High School. He graduated from Johnson County Community College in 2001 with a degree in administration of justice.

In 2003, he finished a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice at Washburn University, with a minor in psychology.

He graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in 2005 and has been employed by the Tonganoxie and Lake Quivira police departments.

Holladay has been assigned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia, N.M., for 22 weeks of border patrol training.

¢Lauren Pipkin, Lawrence, received a Founders Scholarship from Denison University in Granville, Ohio.

She is a 2007 graduate of Free State High School.
