Toddler left at store returned to mother

? Authorities have returned a 2-year-old Kansas boy to his mother, who left him behind at a convenience store in Newcastle, Okla., her attorney said.

Erica Hinojosa, of Piercerville, Kan., told police she was traveling through Oklahoma with her five children and other family members Aug. 5 when they stopped at a convenience store at Interstate 35 and State Highway 9.

She said she didn’t realize she left the boy behind until she arrived home six hours later.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services had custody of the boy for several days, but attorney Arlan Bullard said the child was returned to Hinojosa earlier this month.

The McClain County District Attorney’s office does not plan to file criminal charges against Hinojosa, Assistant District Attorney Lori Puckett said.
