From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 30, 1907: “The Kansas City field owner who forced Kansas and Missouri to play their Thanksgiving Day football game in St. Joseph, Mo., lost a lot of money when he overcharged and forced the shift. Each team took home over $2,000 and the owner in Kansas City could have had a good share of such had he not been so greedy and boosted the rental fee that brought about the change. : The community is enjoying a post-Thanksgiving weekend and is looking forward to a productive shopping season for Christmas. Many have been out Friday and today and there still is talk about the Kansas football victory over Missouri in St. Joseph. : One of the state’s most prominent citizens, Robert Stone, Topeka attorney, will speak at the men’s meeting at the YMCA here. He plans to discuss some of his more celebrated legal cases. : Gov. Hoch seems to be setting a record pardoning people in the penitentiary and while he says it is justified, many are worried about so many criminals being turned loose.”
