Two arrested in weekend kidnapping

Two women were arrested by Lawrence police Tuesday in connection with a weekend kidnapping incident.

Runita J. Bell, 32, and Annetta D. Moten, 40, both of Lawrence, are scheduled for their first appearances today in Douglas County District Court. Both were arrested on county warrants.

Both are being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting aggravated kidnapping and aiding and abetting aggravated assault.

Bell also was booked on an aggravated battery charge. Moten also was arrested on suspicion of making a criminal threat and two failures to appear in court.

The charges stem from an incident involving a 22-year-old Lawrence woman who said she was held against her will for 15 hours Saturday and Sunday in an apartment in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane. The woman told police she was threatened with a gun by a 27-year-old man and beaten with a kitchen utensil by a woman before she escaped.

There was no new information released about the male suspect.
