County advances permit for airstrip

The Douglas County Commission passed a conditional-use permit on Wednesday for a grass airstrip in southern Douglas County, but it will be subject to four conditions.

The permit is on the commission’s Monday consent agenda for final approval.

James Butell had requested a permit to fly for pleasure at the airstrip he’s had for several years at 593 E. 1250 Road.

In May, commissioners delayed the request for the permit for six months to allow the county counselor time to review several issues regarding the airstrip and Butell. The Planning Commission later recommended two conditions for approval and the commissioners added two more Wednesday.

The four conditions are:

¢ If the Federal Aviation Administration determination is anything other than “no objection” the permit will be rescinded.

¢ The county must receive the FAA report within 90 days or the permit will be automatically rescinded.

¢ The county will review the permit one year from the day it is approved.

¢ A provision of the revised site plan will be reviewed by the county in five years and the permit will expire in 10 years.
