Ex-Jayhawk Zagurski makes Phillies debut

Former Kansas University baseball pitcher Mike Zagurski made his major-league debut Friday, pitching a scoreless inning for the Philadelphia Phillies in an 8-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Zagurski relieved starter Jamie Moyer in the bottom of the eighth inning with the Phillies up 7-3. He then pitched an uneventful 1-2-3 inning, forcing a flyout and two groundouts.

Zagurski, a left-hander, pitched at KU in 2004 and 2005 as a starter. After being drafted in the 12th round of the ’05 draft, he spent two full seasons in single-A ball before rocketing up the system this year and being called up today. He replaced established veteran Bret Myers, who went on the 15-day disabled list.
