Man tries to take woman's purse

Lawrence police are looking for a man after a reported attempted robbery around 1:30 this morning.

A 20-year-old female told officers she was walking to her car in the 2500 block of West 31st Street when a white male suspect grabbed her and attempted to take her purse.

The woman told officers that she resisted and that the suspect ran away without taking any of her property, according to a police report. She was not injured.

She described the suspect as a white male in the 20s, 5-foot-9 with a medium build and spiked brown hair. He was last seen wearing black gloves and shorts and a gray “Arizona” T-shirt.

Police are also looking for a vehicle after fielding a report of an aggravated burglary at 2:30 a.m. today in the 3700 block of Crossgate Terrace.

A witness reported seeing suspects around an open garage who then got into a car and left the area. The witness described the car as a silver two-door Ford Escort, according to a police report.

Among property taken were miscellaneous fishing gear, a fly rod, an amplifier and a sweater.
