Firebirds ‘business-like’ in victorious return to field

? For a team that couldn’t wait to get back on the baseball diamond, Free State High sure played like it couldn’t wait to get off.

The Firebirds – victims of two rainouts last week and unable to play since Tuesday – surrendered just three hits and collected eight in an 11-0 rout of Kansas City, Mo., Pembroke Hill on Saturday at the Missouri 3&2 fields. The game was shortened to five innings by the run rule.

“Very business-like,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said. “It was good to get some work from our pitchers heading into this week. It was nice to get on the field again. I anticipated a little rust, but we really looked pretty solid all the way around. “

Andy Petz led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Kyle Cross, Jordan Dreiling and Ben Wilson each had a double, and Dreiling and Wilson each had two RBIs.
