New York City ? He’s served as New Jersey’s governor, outed himself as a “gay American,” and now he wants to be Father James.

Raised a Catholic, Jim McGreevey has become an Episcopalian and will study at The General Theological Seminary in Chelsea, beginning this fall.

McGreevey, 49, was received into the Episcopal Church on Sunday, joining 100 other new converts in a ceremony at St. Bartholomew’s Church on Park Avenue. Bishop Mark Sisk of the Episcopal Diocese of New York led McGreevey and the others in the rite of confirmation.

McGreevey declined to comment Wednesday on his newfound faith.

News of McGreevey’s road to the priesthood came a day after his estranged wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, released a tell-all book describing him as a “bisexual” cad who used her as political prop.

“I don’t think he’s still acknowledged the damage that he’s done to me and to my family, and that’s very difficult to accept,” she said Wednesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

McGreevey, who came out of the closet in 2004, and his live-in lover, Mark O’Donnell, have been attending services at St. Bartholomew’s for about two years.
