Bank fraud brings 27-month sentence

A Lawrence woman has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison in a bank fraud case.

Sandra Diane Jeffress, 52, was sentenced Monday to 27 months in prison for a check-writing scheme in which she signed unauthorized checks to herself from Jayhawk Bowling Supply, where she worked.

Her job at Jayhawk Bowling Supply put her in charge of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Between 1998 and October 2004, Jeffress took $306,000.

According to court documents, Jeffress had the authority to sign company checks as well as have access to the company’s ledgers.

Jeffress allegedly wrote herself checks with company funds and then made entries in the ledger to conceal the payments.

Jeffress pleaded guilty in federal court in Kansas City, Kan., to the bank fraud charges in December.
