After-school programs in need of assistants

Lawrence After School Programs are seeking volunteers for several elementary schools to tutor students or assist with homework. Volunteers are needed from now until the end of the school year in May. Hours for the after-school programs are from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. on all days of the week.

¢ Special Olympics Kansas seeks volunteers to help with the Powerlifting and Cycling Competition from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 14 at Haskell Indian Nations University.

Volunteers are needed to help as timers and scorekeepers, serve lunches, judge, present awards and escort the athletes.

¢ The Salvation Army seeks volunteers to help unload and box canned goods collected from local food drives. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 31.

¢ Lawrence Waste Reduction and Recycling Center needs 20 volunteers to help with Lawrence’s seventh annual Earth Day celebration. The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21 in South Park. Volunteers will help with 8 a.m. setup, the Water Festival activity, other Earth Day activities or cleanup.

¢ The American Cancer Society seeks volunteers to act as committee members for this year’s Relay For Life and participants interested in the event. Relay For Life of Douglas County is scheduled for June 8 at Free State High School’s track, 4700 Overland Drive.
