Legacy of southeast Kansas mining explored

“River City Weekly” will take an in-depth look at lead, zinc and coal mining in southeast Kansas.

The show, “Mining’s Legacy: A Scar on Kansas,” will feature mining’s history and impact; the long-term efforts to remediate toxic waste and water pollution; and the area’s future. It begins Wednesday on a special “River City Weekly” encore.

Guests include Walt Wettstein, former miner; Jim McCauley, Kansas Geological Survey geologist; Dave Drake, project manager for Superfund Division, EPA Region 7; and Doug Gatewood, Kansas representative from the 1st District.
