Rehab tedious, Rush says; no timetable for return

Kansas University junior Brandon Rush admits rehabbing his surgically repaired right knee is about as fun as undergoing a root canal.

“The past week has been really tough. It’s nothing that can kill you or anything. It’s been tough though, I’m not gonna lie about that,” Rush said Wednesday.

The most difficult part?

“Just starting to get the muscles back in my quad and my hamstrings,” said Rush, who had right ACL surgery June 1. “They’ve been trying to get that back for the last week. I go to rehab twice a day. I shoot now when I’m in the chair, do some dribbling drills, and that’s about it for me.”

Rush said he hadn’t set a target date for his return. KU coach Bill Self has said it was possible he could be playing in games in late November or early December.

“It’s kind of tough to watch. Like when they play pickup at night, I don’t ever go. It’s really tough for me to watch them play right now,” Rush said of watching his teammates. “But things with campers right now, I can get into it.

“When there’s nobody around and it’s just the guys that are playing, it gets to me a little bit.”

However … “My teammates have been helping me out a lot. My roommate (Russell Robinson), Mario, ‘Shady’ (Darrell Arthur) all of them, they’ve been behind me 100 percent.”
