Releford makes clinic appearance

Aligned with Kansas University guards Brady Morningstar and Sherron Collins Saturday afternoon, even in an instructional setting, Travis Releford certainly looked the part of a potential teammate for the two.

While joining them as a volunteer at the Hy-Vee/Jayhawk Invitational Basketball Clinic held at Free State High Releford indicated that he’s not too close to making that decision.

The 6-foot-5 Roeland Park Miege standout was in town Friday for Bill Self’s Elite basketball camp, and Saturday joined Collins, Morningstar and others to help refine some youngsters’ fundamentals.

“It’s picking up real well,” Releford said of his recruitment as he prepares for his senior season. “I’m now sitting down with my mom and my coach to pick my top schools.”

Releford, whom rivals.com ranks the 66th-ranked prospect in the class of 2008, said his list of potential institutions had not been trimmed, and from the sound of his summer schedule, the visits might take a back seat for awhile.

After a June filled mostly with practices, his Kansas City Pump-N-Run squad will participate in a slew of events in July, including the Adidas Superstar Camp (July 5-9, Atlanta) and the Adidas Super 64 (July 22-26, Las Vegas).

Releford already has collected scholarship offers from the local trio of Division-I culprits: KU, Kansas State and Missouri. He’s also drawn interest from outside of the area, from schools such as Arizona, Oklahoma and Texas.

But just as his recruitment kicks into high gear, Releford insists that pressure from his inner circle is nowhere to be seen.

“It’s up to me,” he said.
