Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for July 26, 1907: “The long discussed ‘rock road’ plan for the route from here to Kansas City has not been changed to an oiled road concept. It would cost about $3,000 a mile and would be far more durable than the rock road concept which was recently abandoned. : The Lawrence Committee met yesterday and is devising a plan to ‘better advertise’ our town. Various publications as well as personal contract plans are being discussed to put Lawrence into the forefront of many minds as it should be. : The annual CPA Picnic at Brown’s Grove south of town is drawing good crowds despite threatening weather.”
