Tigers complete sweep of Twins

? Tigers 4, Twins 3, 10 innings

Brandon Inge’s 10th-inning double off Joe Nathan drove in Timo Perez, pushing Detroit past Minnesota to complete a three-game sweep of the defending AL Central champions.

Placido Polanco and Gary Sheffield hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the seventh inning for the Tigers, who have baseball’s best record – and a majors-most 32 wins on the road. Todd Jones recorded his 26th save in 30 tries.

Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2

New York – Chien-Ming Wang could only watch when Vernon Wells’ tapper rolled to a stop for an infield hit, and Toronto broke loose, rallying for three runs in the seventh inning to beat New York and end the Yankees’ five-game winning streak.

With Wang holding an early lead, the Yankees appeared poised to complete a four-game sweep of the Blue Jays for the first time since 1995.

Instead, Dustin McGowan (6-5) and Toronto had other ideas. McGowan steadied himself from a tough start and kept the Blue Jays close, and it soon was their turn to come back.

Angels 3, Devil Rays 0

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Kelvim Escobar won his career-best fifth consecutive decision, and Garret Anderson drove in two runs to help AL West Division-leading Los Angeles avoid a three-game sweep.

Indians 7, Rangers 5

Arlington, Texas – C.C. Sabathia became the first 13-game winner in the major leagues despite another shaky start, getting help from Grady Sizemore’s long tiebreaking home run in Cleveland’s victory over Texas. Sabathia (13-4), allowed four runs and nine hits over six innings with two strikeouts and a walk.

White Sox 4, Red Sox 2

Boston – A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
