New aquatic center to have grand opening

A ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday for the new Eudora Aquatic Center at 1638 Elm St. Games and prizes will follow throughout the afternoon.

The new pool includes a water slide, a lazy river, a six-lane lap pool, zero-depth entry, two diving boards and a diving well. It officially opened July 7.

Hot dogs will be given away at 5 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis, and admission will be free between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., said Jim Kegin, sports director for Eudora Parks and Recreation.

The pool is the first part of a $3.8 million project that includes a recreation facility. It is being funded through a bond issue and a half-cent city sales tax increase.
