Lied Center needs ushers for fall shows

The Lied Center is in need of 20 to 30 ushers to help with greeting patrons, handing out programs and tearing tickets for upcoming performances.

Volunteer ushers must commit for six months and sign up for events at the beginning of each semester. Usher orientation will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Lied Center on Kansas University’s West Campus.

Immediate volunteer needs

¢ Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore seeks regular weekly or one-day volunteers to help carry and sort donations of building materials, assist customers in selection and loading purchases and do light cleaning and preparation of materials. Heavy lifting is not required.

For more information, contact Dave at 856-6920 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

¢ Clinton Lake U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is looking for volunteers interested in one-time or ongoing tasks such as picking up litter, painting, weeding, mulching and maintaining trails.

¢ Lawrence Transit System seeks volunteers to assist with the distribution of new T bus route maps and schedule information. Volunteers also are needed to assist with on-board passenger surveys.

¢ Jubilee Cafe provides breakfast to in-need members of the community in a restaurant-style environment and seeks volunteers to help prepare and serve meals and to clean up. The program runs from 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and Friday at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. To volunteer, call 864-4073.

¢ Douglas County Child Development Association is looking for people willing to be a part of a team committed to serving the early education community.

Volunteers are asked to make a three-month commitment for three hours a week. They will assist with general clerical tasks including copying, assembling packets and preparing mailings.
