Twins 20-12, White Sox 14-0

Chicago – Justin Morneau homered three times in the second game of a doubleheader, and Minnesota capped a huge day on offense by routing Chicago, 12-0. The Twins won, 20-14, in the opener.

Detroit – The highest-scoring offense in baseball was too much for the team with the best record in the majors. Curtis Granderson led off the fifth with a home run, and Marcus Thames added a grand slam in the inning, lifting Detroit over Boston.

Detroit, which is averaging about six runs a game, won the series opener over the Red Sox, who are 53-32. Rookie Andrew Miller (4-2) gave up one run and three hits over seven innings. He matched a season-high with six strikeouts and set a career mark with four walks in his 109-pitch outing.
