Colorado AD says Patton will coach rest of season

? Ricardo Patton will remain coach of the University of Colorado’s struggling men’s basketball team until season’s end, athletic director Mike Bohn reiterated Thursday.

Upset that he didn’t get a contract extension before this season, Patton issued a surprise announcement on Oct. 25 that this season, his 11th, would be his last in Boulder.

The freshmen-laden Buffaloes are 5-11 overall and last in the Big 12 at 1-5 following a 15-point loss at home Wednesday night to Missouri, which snapped a 12-game road losing streak that lasted more than a year.

The Buffs’ losses included Colorado State’s first win in Boulder since 1957 and the team’s mediocre play has led many fans and alumni to wonder why Patton hasn’t been replaced by an interim coach while a search committee looks for his successor.

Bohn has said he didn’t replace Patton immediately because he didn’t want to disrupt the program, and he reiterated that position during a round-table discussion with reporters on Thursday.
