Art al a Carte

Welcome to Art a la Carte. I’m Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.

Tonight, the Cypress String Quartet returns to Lawrence, where it last performed at the Lied Center in 2004, to present “Inspired by America.” The program includes contemporary selections that symbolize the essence of America’s continual forward progress. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. today at the Lied Center.

Kansas University art professor Carol Ann Carter has a solo exhibition at the Lawrence Arts Center through Feb. 28 called “Mapping the Interior Landscape.” Carter works in multimedia installation and performance, mixed media and digital imaging and video. She’s interested in collaboration across cultures and disciplines in the arts. A reception for the show will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today during the Downtown Friday Gallery Walk.

And Lawrence High School stages its biennial musical this weekend. “Hello Dolly,” one of the most popular Broadway musicals ever written, follows widowed matchmaker Dolly Gallagher to New York, where she gets caught in a series of romantic entanglements. The musical plays at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at the high school. Tickets are $6.
