McLouth police officers and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday helped end a car chase that began when a man attempted to run over a police officer in Kansas City, Mo., police said.

The chase, which lasted just less than an hour and reached speeds of 105 mph, resulted in one arrest on suspicion of attempted aggravated assault on an officer and eluding police.

The chase began around 8:15 a.m. when Kansas City, Mo., police responded to a call of suspicious activity in northeastern Kansas City, police Capt. Rich Lockhart said.

In an alley, they found a white van with three men inside and removed the driver to question him. A passenger then took the wheel and attempted to run down the driver and the officer, Lockhart said.

The chase made its way to westbound Interstate 70, then on U.S. Highway 24-40. About 20 minutes later, near Tonganoxie, police called off the chase and alerted other agencies of the van’s direction and Kansas license plate.

McLouth officers and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies found the van crashed near McLouth, and Kansas Highway Patrol officers transported the driver and passenger to Leavenworth County Jail.
