Chef to request special-use permit
Plans for a private restaurant to be operated in an East Lawrence home are up for City Commission approval once again.
Commissioners will consider at their meeting tonight a request from Robert and Molly Krause to use their home at 917 Del. for a private restaurant that would operate on a by-reservation only system.
Commissioners previously denied a request to rezone the property to a commercial use, but the latest request asks that the business be granted a special-use permit. Members of the East Lawrence Neighborhood Association had previously opposed the request. But East Lawrence President Phil Collison said the group now supports the plan since the Krauses are no longer seeking a rezoning.
The special-use permit, unlike zoning, would not automatically run with the property if the business were sold. The special-use permit also could be revoked by city commissioners at any time if they deemed the business was not meeting any of the conditions designed to insulate the neighborhood from the business.
Commissioners will meet at 6:35 p.m. today at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.
