Accidental fire victim suffers severe burns

A Lawrence woman was injured Sunday night when an accidental stove-top fire burned her, fire officials said Monday.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Division Chief Rob Kort said the fire began about 7 p.m. Sunday at 416 Wis.

Fire crews on the scene reported light smoke coming from the house and found the woman inside with severe burns.

The flames originated on the stove’s range, Kort said. It was likely a cooking accident because the range was operational when fire investigators tested it.

Kort wouldn’t release the name or age of the victim. She was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then to a Kansas City area hospital for treatment.
