A judge is considering whether to suppress a confession given to deputies by a man charged with murdering a Lecompton man during a home burglary.

In a hearing Thursday in Douglas County District Court, Judge Michael Malone said he would review videotaped statements given by Leonard W. Price before making a decision on whether they were voluntary. He scheduled a hearing for Jan. 25 to make a ruling on the issue.

Price, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Clarence David Boose, a retired jeweler found shot to death in April 2005 inside his home on the Upper River Road.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Detective John Lewis testified Thursday about a series of interviews he had with Price, including one in which he agreed to drive with detectives and show them the route he and another man, Allen D. Smith, 35, Topeka, had taken on the day they burglarized Boose’s home.

According to testimony, Price told detectives the two men broke into the home thinking it was vacant and that Smith shot Boose. Smith, who is in prison for attempted murder in a separate case, has not been charged with Boose’s killing.
