Veritas splits at tourney

? Veritas Christian regrouped after losing an 11-point lead Thursday to defeat St. Mary’s Academy, 55-53 in overtime, in the first round of the KCAA 2A state boys basketball tournament.

The Eagles led by 11 early in the fourth quarter. St. Mary’s rallied to tie, then Veritas outscored St. Mary’s, 4-2, in overtime.

“We let them back into the game,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “They started playing well, and we were missing our shots.”

Veritas (5-18) will play No. 1 seed Topeka Cair Paravel in the semifinals at 2:15 p.m. today.

Derby Christian girls 42, Veritas 38

Lenexa – The Veritas Christian girls basketball team bounced back from an early 11-0 deficit to tie in the third quarter, but came up short in the KCAA 2A state girls basketball tournament.

Veritas fell to 8-14 and will conclude its season against Topeka Heritage at 9 a.m. today.
