Walking tour to visit Black Jack Battlefield

? Nature enthusiasts can tour the field of a pre-Civil War battle Saturday.

The walk, sponsored by Black Jack Battlefield Trust, will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Black Jack Battlefield site east of Baldwin City.

It will be led by Roger Boyd, senior professor of biology at Baker University; Kelly Kindscher, associate scientist with the Kansas Biological Survey; and Stan Roth, retired Lawrence High School biology teacher.

Participants should meet at Robert Hall Pearson Memorial Park south of U.S. Highway 56, about 3 miles east of Baldwin City.

Trust members hope to turn the 40-acre site into a tourist attraction for people wanting to know more about the battle and to go on nature walks.
