From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 7, 1907: “Lawrence now has the chance of securing an industry that will mean an increase of 5,000 in the population of the town in five years. It will mean a weekly payroll of from $5,000 to $100,000. It will enhance every piece of property in the city. We must all get together to get this implement-producing factory by buying bonds to support the recruitment efforts. : While many are complaining about cold weather, one class of citizens, the plumbers, are happy because of the extra work all the frozen pipes is producing. The telephone of no plumber has been idle for long of late. : The outlook does not seem good for the anti-jointist and anti-gambling legislation before the lawmakers in Topeka. It seems some are wary about going too far. : More than 50 attended the Douglas County Good Roads Assn. meeting yesterday and there is great enthusiasm about establishment of more permanent, and needed, roads in the county, with county people overseeing the work.”
