LHS girls roll

? Lawrence High’s girls basketball team shattered Shawnee Mission Northwest’s zone defense early, then pulled away with an overwhelming third quarter. The Lions prevailed, 64-24 on Thursday.

“I felt like we started the game really strong,” LHS coach Kristin Mallory said. “They came out in a zone, and we came out and hit a couple threes right off the bat. We kinda shot them out of the zone.”

LHS managed just five points in a lackluster second quarter, but put up 21 in the third while holding SM Northwest to two.

“Tania (Jackson) had a size advantage,” Mallory said. “She had nine points in the third quarter.”

Jackson finished with 14 points.

The Lions (4-0) will play host to Free State on Dec. 20.
