The presidential winning streak continues for employees at Hallmark Cards Inc.’s production center in Lawrence.

For the seventh consecutive holiday season, Hallmark workers in town have printed the official annual White House Christmas cards – all 800,000 of them – for eventual delivery to friends, family, supporters, employees and others identified by President Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. Foreign dignitaries also receive cards.

“The people in Lawrence are always honored and thrilled that they are the first ones to actually see the finished presidential Christmas card roll off the press,” said Deidre Parkes, a Hallmark spokeswoman. “It’s an honor to be able to print something so special.”

This year’s card, a tip-on on elegant stock with a deckle edge, includes an embossed gold foil presidential seal on the insert page. The Bushes selected a Bible verse from Nehemiah and this message to be incorporated on the card:

“You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. – Nehemiah 9:6 (NIV)

“May the joy of all creation fill your heart this blessed season.”

The card’s artwork is from watercolorist David Drummond, featuring Sylvia Shaw Judson’s statue “Gardener” welcoming winter to the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden at the White House.

Hallmark has been making holiday cards for presidents since 1953, when Dwight Eisenhower commissioned the first official White House Christmas card. This is the 40th official card made for the White House by Hallmark, which has 800 employees working at its Lawrence center, 101 McDonald Drive.

Production of the card is financed by the Republican National Committee.
