From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 26, 1907: “A Clay Center man recently sold a half interest in one hog for $4,000, and that is more than the $3,600 paid for 36 hogs in the celebrated Sutton sale here recently. : There is every evidence that local taxes will go up again and the final total for next year is due to be about 69 mills, up eight mills from this year.”
