John S. and Lindsey N. Taylor, Lawrence, announce the birth of their son, Samuel Mark Taylor, born Aug. 8, 2007, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Samuel’s maternal grandparents are Mark and Shawna Culver, Dodge City. His paternal grandparents are Lorraine Taylor, Coffeyville, and the late Norman Taylor. His great-grandmother is Leola Lindsey, Dodge City.

Jane Lewis and Wanda Rider, both of Lawrence, graduated from Fort Hays State University this spring. Lewis received a Master of Liberal Studies, and Rider earned a Master of Science in counseling.

Orion M. Graf, Lawrence, received the Master Chief Petty Officer Ken E. Blair Scholarship from the Fleet Reserve Association.

Graf will use the $3,000 scholarship as he attends Kansas University.

The association is a nonprofit organization representing the interests of current and former enlisted members of the sea service community, including the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.

Kathryn Seibel and Shuan Tsau, both of Lawrence, received scholarships from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Kansas University. Seibel received the Martha Cook Clarke Scholarship, and Tsau earned the C.E. Spahr Scholarship.

The scholarships were available to outstanding freshmen, sophomores and juniors in the college during the 2006-07 academic year.

Undergraduates at Kansas University worked on research projects this summer funded with grants from the University Honors Program. Kristina Clement, Lawrence, received a J. Michael Young Award, which provides $1,500 for research.

Other grant recipients include Michael Ambroselli and Alex Krejci, both of Lawrence, and Lynne Lammers, Baldwin City.

Meghan Walsh, Lawrence, was among five incoming law students selected for the Rice Scholar Program at Kansas University. The program offers full tuition scholarships to Kansas residents who have outstanding academic records and proven leadership ability.

Walsh is a graduate of Lawrence High School and received a bachelor’s degree from KU. She spent the past year as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer at the KU Center for Service Learning.

Nicholas Andrew Ludvigson, Baldwin City, and Andrea L. Hemphill, Lawrence, graduated in May from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. Ludvigson received a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy, and Hemphill earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in marketing.

Abbey Patterson, Lawrence, graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., in December. Patterson received a Bachelor of Arts in religion.

The School of Education at Kansas University recognized more than 880 Kansas teachers and school administrators with certificates honoring them for 25 years or more of service in education. Teachers from area districts include:

Several area students at the University of Iowa in Iowa City were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2007 semester. They include Allie Ludvigson, Baldwin City, and Scott Elwell, Bonnie Toplikar and Katelyn Truscello, all of Lawrence. They earned at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Audrey Schenewerk, Baldwin City, graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., on May 27. She received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry.

Kelly Simmons, Lawrence, was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2007 semester at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. Simmons earned at least a 3.7 grade-point average.

Tyler Cordts, Overbrook, was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2007 semester at Central College in Pella, Iowa. He earned a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

Jennifer Hornbaker, Michelle Miller and Collin Schmidt, all of Lawrence, were named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the spring 2007 semester at Iowa State University in Ames. They earned a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

Several area students at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the spring 2007 semester. They include Sarah Norris, Basehor, and Erin Bennett, Matthew Pottorff and Jenna Wilcox, all of Lawrence. They earned a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

Lindsey Kennedy, Law-rence, was named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the spring 2007 semester at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
