Special session slated on teachers’ contracts

Lawrence school board members will meet in a special session 7 p.m. Monday at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive, to discuss a tentative agreement reached Wednesday on teachers’ contracts.

District spokeswoman Julie Boyle said board members will go into executive session at the special meeting and then possibly take action.

Negotiators with the district and Lawrence Education Association reached tentative agreement Wednesday that includes adding $1.2 million to the teachers’ annual salary schedule – a 3.28 percent increase from last year.

District negotiators said they needed board approval before sending the tentative agreement to teachers for ratification because the board had not given authority for an offer that high.

Deputy Superintendent Bruce Passman said Wednesday he expected board members to approve the tentative deal. Board members Craig Grant and Rich Minder were members of the district’s negotiation team.
