Aquahawks Clinic: A free clinic for swimmers and their parents interested in the Lawrence Aquahawks will be at 6:30 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. Hodgson Weekly Champ: Kent Hodgson carded a 68 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club weekly net tournament by one stroke over Tom Taylor. Andy Devin and Bob Bezek came in with 70s, followed by Van Reichert 71 and Bud Stagg and Duane Dickson, each with a 72. Conrad Roberts posted the low gross score with a one-under-par 71.

Eagle Bend Men: Eagle Bend Men’s League will conduct a two-man best-ball tournament Aug. 31. Entry deadline is next Tuesday. The league will also hold a match-play tourney from Sept. 4 through Oct. 13. For information, call 748-0600.

Youth Volleyball: Seventh- and eighth-grade girls enrolled in city junior highs are eligible for a volleyball program offered by the city and the school district. A city-wide clinic will be next Wednesday at Southwest with practices to be twice weekly starting Sept. 3. Games will be played Sept. 22 and 29 and Oct. 6. State Horseshoe Meet: Kansas Horseshoe Pitchers Assn. will conduct its annual state tournament Sept. 1-3 at Forest Park in Ottawa. More than 130 participants will compete in five divisions. Entries closed on Aug. 1.

Perfect GPA: Jennifer Hornbaker, a sophomore from Lawrence, posted the highest grade point average on Iowa State’s gymnastics team. Hornbaker’s perfect 4.0 helped the Cyclones record the highest GPA among Big 12 Conference gymnastics teams at 3.42.
