Boys in first- through fifth-grades and their families are invited to join Cub Scouting programs during the next few weeks.

The Scouts’ Heart of America Council is mailing packets to identified first- and second-graders in Lawrence and De Soto. The packets include a DVD video titled “A Family’s Dream” and a packet of gourmet popcorn.

School Night to Join Scouting open houses are set for 7 p.m. at these Lawrence schools:

• Thursday: Broken Arrow, Cordley, Corpus Christi Catholic School, Schwegler, Sunflower and Wakarusa.
• Aug. 28: Deerfield, Hillcrest, Kennedy, Langston Hughes, New York, Pinckney, Prairie Park, Quail Run, St. John’s Catholic School, Sunset Hill and Woodlawn.

Elementary schools in the De Soto district will offer open houses, also at 7 p.m.:

• Tuesday: Prairie Ridge.
• Thursday: Horizon, Mize and Riverview.
• Aug. 28: Clear Creek.
• Aug. 30: Starside.
