4-H News

The Douglas County 4-H Council met June 18 at the Douglas County Extension Office. Wesley Callahan, president, called the meeting to order. Jen Livingood led the flag salute and 4-H pledge, and Lacey Hunsinger, secretary, took roll and read the minutes. Whitney Box led the opening activity.

Whitney Box, treasurer; Tori Booth, Fair Board representative; and Shon Price, parliamentarian, gave reports.

Kjrsten Abel-Ruch, program coordinator, gave her Top 12 announcements.

Committees met and gave reports. The officer training committee asked the council to have clubs give donations for meals and prizes during training. The National 4-H Week committee asked members to provide pictures and movies of anyone’s 4-H experiences. The member-at-large committee approved outlines and policies, and announced that forms are due Dec. 1, and that all members are required to do a year-end report.

The concession stand committee needs volunteers on Friday and Saturday during the fair and on derby night. The committee also needs clubs to make signs promoting 4-H and thanking people for donations. The achievement committee is looking for donations for the achievement celebration. The trips and awards committee made a suggested amount of relief money for 4-H’ers eligible to go to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. Pen guidelines were approved.

In old business, council members need to pick up T-shirts, and the council needs ideas for selling cookbooks.

Under new business, bills were approved for camp, CWF and ambassadors. Every member needs to sign up for a shift during Jackpot Barrel Racing, which was set for July 27. Council reps need to ask clubs for donations and set up donation buckets during the fair for Kiowa County 4-H assistance. The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club asked for help serving iced tea and water at the auction.

It was announced that concession stand posters are needed and that hot dog help was needed for demolition derby night at the fair. Friendship night invitations should be sent to other clubs, and more articles and pictures are needed for the 4-H tabloid. The council also approved spending $150 for Wesley Callahan’s trip to National 4-H Congress in Atlanta.
