Plane crashes in sea off island; at least 14 dead

? A plane carrying 20 people crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff Thursday from the French Polynesian island of Moorea, killing at least 14 of those on board, officials said.

The Tahiti-bound Twin Otter DHC6 turboprop, carrying 19 passengers and a pilot, went down about noon, according to officials from the local aviation authority and the company Air Moorea.

France’s high commission on Tahiti said 14 bodies had been recovered. The aviation authority said no survivors had been found.
