Brown Second in KWGA: Melissa Brown of Lawrence shot a 77 to earn second place in a Kansas Women’s Golf Assn. tournament Sunday in Dodge City. Tara Goedeken of Dodge City won with a score of 66.

Dickson JGC Winner: Duane Dickson carded a 69 and won Sunday’s Jayhawk Golf Club net tournament at Alvamar by one stroke over Ted Johnson. Bob Bezek was third with a 72 and Tom Taylor fourth at 74. Carding 75s were Randy Gebhards, Keith Wallace, William Patt and Jay Patterson. Bezek had the low gross score with a three-over-par 75.

Youth Volleyball: Seventh- and eighth-grade girls enrolled in city junior highs are eligible for a volleyball program offered by the city and the school district. A city-wide clinic will be Aug. 29 at Southwest with practices to be twice weekly starting Sept. 3. Games will be played Sept. 22 and 29 and Oct. 6.

Phenix Tryouts: Lawrence Phenix girls fast-pitch will conduct tryouts for next season Saturday and Sunday at Holcom Complex – U-10 at 9 a.m., U-12 at 11:30 a.m. and U-14 to U-18 at 2 p.m. Sign-ups will be a half an hour earlier in each age group. Klutman Hole in One: Neil Klutman used a 7-iron to ace the 152-yard No. 17 hole at Lawrence Country Club on Aug. 3. Al Horning and Chito Manalo were witnesses.

Blazer Hole In One: Chip Blazer recently aced the 126-yard third hole at Eagle Bend. Witnesses were Bob Kocour, Doug Staab and J.R. Neutel.

Golf Tournament: The Eagle Bend Men’s League End of the Year Two-man Best Ball Tournament will be held Aug. 31. Reservations must be made by Tuesday, Aug. 28. Call Eagle Bend Golf Course, 748-0600 to sign up.

Eagle Bend League: Eagle Bend Men’s League match play will be held Sept. 4-Oct. 13. Eligibility: Must be a current men’s league member with at least 5(five) league scores posted by Aug. 28. Format: Eighteen-hole match play, single elimination.

Entry fee is $25. Entries due by 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28. All entries will be collected at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Brackets will be posted by Sept. 1.
